How Do Barnstable County Commute Times Compare
New U.S. Census data reveals how much time you are wasting getting to work.

The time it takes for folks in Barnstable County to get to work is going down, but so is the percentage of people traveling to work, new census numbers say.
According to the U.S. Census survey, the average commute time in Barnstable County is 22.1 minutes, a decrease from the 2015 numbers of 22.9 minutes. It might not seem like a big improvement, but the numbers are heading the right direction: the average time estimated for a commute was over 24 minutes in 2013, 2012, and 2011.
The percentage of the more than 100,000 workers age 16 or over working from home increased from 5.1 in 2014 to 7.6 in 2015. The other major change was the percentage of people who walked to work, which dipped from 3.5 to 1.6.

Statewide, it took the nearly 3,500,000 workers 29.7 minutes to get to work, an increase of almost two minutes compared to 2011.
Nationwide, the average travel time was 26.4 minutes in 2015, an increase of more than a minute compared to five years earlier.
