How Many Millionaires Live In Barnstable?

In light of the 'millionaires tax' ballot question being shot down by the state's SJC, here's how many high-earners live in Barnstable.

BARNSTABLE, MA — Good news for millionaires in town, the state's Supreme Judicial Court shot down the so-called ‘millionaires tax’ on Monday. The question would have raised the income tax of some of the highest earners in the state by 4 percent and used that money for transportation and education.

The state's highest court in a 5-2 decision sided with business groups who argued it was unconstitutional. The move removes one of the more talked-about questions from the November ballot - and one of the most important tax-related questions in decades. It also removes the possibility of an additional $1.6 billion to $2.2 billion in tax revenue, the Department of Revenue said.

It also means welcomed news for some residents in town. Barnstable has 89 million-dollar earners, or 2 per 1,000 residents.

Boston has the most millionaires in the state with 2,131, followed by Newton with 1,276 and Wellesley with 864.
