Humpback Whale Carcass Washes Ashore On Cape Cod
The whale, known as "Vector," was first spotted in 1984 and appeared regularly off the coast for over a decade.
SANDWICH, MA — The carcass of a humpback whale washed up on a Cape Cod beach Monday. The whale, known as "Vector," was first spotted in 1984 and had been seen regularly for 15 years, according to Boston 25.
The 45-foot-long, 40-ton female was seen floating in Cape Cod Bay over the weekend and washed up on a beach in East Sandwich Monday. A necropsy to determine her cause of death is planned for Wednesday.
Humpback whales have been classified as an endangered species since the Endangered Species Conservation Act in 1970 and the Endangered Species Act in 1973.
