Hyannis Deputy Fire Chief Dean Melanson Retiring After 34 Years
A retirement celebration will be held at the Hyannis fire station at the end of the month.

HYANNIS, MA — Hyannis Deputy Fire Chief Dean L. Melanson will retire May 31 after 34 years with the department.
"Working for the Hyannis Fire Department has been the best experience of my life. This job is awesome because of all of you, the current and past members of the Department, who work tirelessly every day to provide service and care to everyone in Hyannis," Melanson said. "It is because of your hard work that the Hyannis Fire Department is such a well-respected and professional department ... During my thirty-four years, I believe we have worked very hard to continue those efforts producing a modern, strong and professional department. There is still much work to be done and I know that all of you are the right people to continue this work. You will continue to provide a strong foundation for the future of this Department and will continue to
take it to great places, of this, I am sure."

- January 1, 1985 Hired on HyFD as Lieutenant, Fire Prevention Officer
- February 20, 1990 Promoted to Shift Lieutenant
- August 6, 1998 Promoted to Shift Captain
- January 2, 1999 Promoted to Deputy Chief (under Chief Harold Brunelle)
- January 8, 2017 – July 23, 2017 Promoted to Acting Chief of Department
- July 24, 2017 Returned to Deputy Chief position
- May 31, 2019 Forecasted Retirement Date (after 34 Years and 5 months)
