Hyannis Man Attacked Officers After Rt. 28 Disturbance: Police

The man was approached by police for "challenging vehicles" in the middle of the roadway.

YARMOUTH, MA – A Hyannis man was arrested Sunday after allegedly attacking two Yarmouth police officers on Rt. 28. Jarred Adkins, 35, was approached by officers responding to a report of a man "challenging vehicles" while walking in the middle of the road near Camp Street, police said.

Police found Adkins shoeless and with cuts on his feet and forehead near Timmy's Roast Beef. He pulled the hood of his sweatshirt over his face and stared straight ahead in silence before removing it to reveal a "glazed over" look, according to a police statement. Adkins then began to yell nonsense and point at the front of his shirt, shouting, "I demand respect," police said.

He also screamed "my savior Jesus" and flailed his arms in a "strange motion," police said. Adkins walked away from the sidewalk into the middle of Rt. 28, causing traffic to build up on both sides of the highway.
