Hyannis Man Charged After Driving Car On Bike Path, Hitting Pedestrian

A Sandwich man's run was interrupted when he was struck by a car on the Service Road bike path construction project, police said.

HYANNIS, MA — A Hyannis man faces charges after driving his car through a Cape Cod bike path construction project and striking a runner, police said.

The Sandwich Police Department received a call from a man who was out for a run reporting he had been hit by a motor vehicle that was being operated on the Service Road bike path construction project around 5:40 p.m.

The runner reported he was uninjured and continued his run, police said. Officers found a vehicle that matched the description soon after.

Zachary Franklin, 24, of Hyannis is charged with operating under the influence, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, malicious destruction of property and assault and battery by means of a dangerous weapon. He is scheduled for arrangement in Barnstable District Court on Monday.
