Hyannis Man Faces Federal Drug Trafficking Charges

The 31-year-old allegedly had over 100 grams of fentanyl in his car when he was stopped in March.

HYANNIS, MA – A Cape Cod man was among three people charged in a federal drug trafficking indictment Thursday. Steven Marshall, 31, of Hyannis, was charged with conspiracy to distribute and possess with the intent to distribute fentanyl and possession with intent to distribute and distribution of fentanyl.

Marshall was arrested by federal authorities Thursday after previously being charged in state court. Two Dominican nationals, 26-year-old Hilario Yogey Mota-Bernabel, who had been living in New Bedford, and 29-year-old Miki Michael Mota-Bernabel, who had been living in Providence, RI, were also charged in the indictment.

According to the indictment, Marshall traveled to New Bedford to purchase fentanyl from Hilario Yogey Mota-Bernabel in January and February. During this time, he was under surveillance by investigators, the U.S. Attorney's office said.

Authorities stopped Marshall after a pickup on March 1 and seized about 125 grams of fentanyl from his car, the indictment stated.

Federal agents allegedly bought approximately 100 grams of fentanyl from Hilario Yogey Mota-Bernabel four times in the subsequent months, according to the USAO. Miki Michael Mota-Bernabel allegedly served as the courier on one occasion and the other Mota-Bernabel allegedly delivered the fentanyl another time.

Agents seized over 350 grams of suspected fentanyl, $12,395 and other drug-related paraphernalia from Hilario Yogey Mota-Bernabel's home and stash house. Both Mota-Bernabels are also accused of entering the United States illegally.
