Hyannis Man Facing 5th DUI Charge

HYANNIS, MA — A Hyannis man faced his fifth drunken driving charge after a traffic stop Saturday. Richard Hatfield, 63, pleaded not guilty Monday to driving under the influence, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, resisting arrest and number plate violation.

Just after midnight, officers tried to pull Hatfield over near the intersection of Garden Lane and Route 28 because his illumination lights on his license plate were defective, police told the Cape Cod Times. Police said Hatfield eventually stopped, but refused a sobriety tests and had to be forcibly removed from his car. Hatfield will return to Barnstable District Court on March 3.
