Hyannis Man Flees Police, Faces Fentanyl And Other Charges

A Hyannis man tried to run from Yarmouth police this week, adding another charge to his three outstanding warrants.

YARMOUTH, MA — A Hyannis man was charged with possessing fentanyl after a brief run from the police earlier this week in Yarmouth.

Matthew Julian, 34, of Yarmouth, was arrested on Tuesday and charged with possessing a Class A substance. He was already wanted for three additional warrants, according to police.

At around 12:45 p.m. on Tuesday, Yarmouth police pulled over a truck after recognizing that the vehicle owner had outstanding warrants. When the truck turned off Route 28 into the Cape Shores Inn parking lot, the passenger, later identified as Julian, jumped out of the car and hopped a fence, police said.

Police set up a perimeter and even utilized a police dog to locate Julian in the parking lot behind the Registry of Motor Vehicles in South Yarmouth.

During the arrest, Julian dropped a small object and attempted to kick it under the cruiser, according to police. The item was retrieved, and it was found to be a small, knotted baggie with a substance that tested positive for fentanyl.
