Hyannis Man Seriously Hurt In Crash; Speeding Eyed

A Hyannis man driving in Wareham struck a tree, seriously injuring himself and a female passenger, police said.

WAREHAM, MA — Two Barnstable residents were hurt — one seriously — after a car struck a tree in Wareham Tuesday. The driver, a 30-year-old Hyannis man, suffered grave injuries and was transported to Tobey Hospital, according to state police. The passenger, a 29-year-old woman, was transported to Rhode Island Hospital with injuries that were not life threatening.

Police said speed is being eyed as a factor in the crash, which happened at about 1:35 p.m. on Interstate 495 north. The pair were in a 2016 Dodge Challenger when "for reasons still under investigation" the driver veered off the highway into the median and hit a tree.

The crash remains under investigation, police said.
