Hyannis Woman Who Recruited Cocaine Smuggler Sentenced: Feds

The woman recruited to smuggle cocaine in her body ended up hospitalized and had to have the drugs surgically removed, authorities said.

HYANNIS, MA — A Hyannis woman was sentenced Monday for her role in a cocaine smuggling operation. Cristina Delle Femine, 29, pleaded guilty in February to one count of conspiring to import cocaine and one count of conspiring to possess with intent to distribute cocaine, according to the U.S. Attorney's office.

In May 2017, Delle Femine recruited another woman to travel with her to Jamaica and paid for her flights and hotel, the USAO said. While in Jamaica, Delle Femine convinced the woman to smuggle packets of cocaine into the United States in her body. The woman had trouble passing the cocaine through her system and was rushed to the hospital to have them surgically removed, according to authorities.

Delle Femine also smuggled cocaine by carrying it in her body. Though authorities recommended 12 months in prison, Delle Femine was sentenced to time served – three weeks – and three years of supervised release.
