Please join the Osterville Village Library in conjunction with Books by the Sea in welcoming local Cape Cod author Elliott Carr for a discussion and presentation on his new book “Herring Run: Life and Death at Stony Brook” at Osterville Village Library, 43 Wianno Ave, Osterville on Saturday, April 26 at 11 a.m.
Elliott Carr moved to Cape Cod in 1982 at which time he had rarely held a camera or glanced at a bird. But the place did its magic. And digital photography allowed his new-found interest in birds to expand. He doesn’t claim to be a birder and doesn’t maintain a lifetime bird list. But he
spends considerable time photographing Cape Cod water-related birds, trying as much to learn more about bird species and their role in the environment as to create art.
Carr wrote the book, Walking the Shores of Cape Cod in 1997 about his walk around the entire perimeter of Cape Cod.
More recently he has published two photography books: In the Beginning: An Osprey Family Story in 2011, which projects life on one osprey nest for a year, and Herring Run: Life and Death at Stony Brook in 2013, which tells the story of the annual run of alewives up Cape rivers to spawn and the birds which feed on them. His photographs have been exhibited at numerous Cape Cod museums and libraries.
Local booksellers Books by the Sea will offer Herring Run: Life and Death at Stony Brook for purchase at the event. This event is free and open to the public.
