Major Crash Closes Route 28 Near Cape Cod Mall

Police said treatment is underway for those injured in the crash. Here's what to know.

HYANNIS, MA — A major crash has closed a portion of Route 28 in Hyannis, local police said.

Police announced that a major motor vehicle accident has closed Route 28 behind the Cape Cod Mall to the Airport rotary around 10:35 a.m. on Tuesday.

"Our team is working diligently to treat the injured and reopen the roadway. Please seek alternate routes," police said.

According to the Cape Cod Times, the crash was caused by a Cape Cod Regional Transit bus leaving the roadway, knocking down a utility pole before hitting a gas meter and running into a building.
