Manslaughter Charges Filed In Barnstable Overdose Death

The Hyannis man had bond set at $10,000 and is due back in court at the end of the month.

BARNSTABLE, MA — A Hyannis man faces charges after a woman's overdose led to here death in Barnstable over the weekend.

Shawn O’Hara, 42, of Hyannis, was arraigned in the Barnstable District Court for his role relating to the death of a 36-year-old woman in the town of Barnstable. He faces charges of manslaughter and possession of both a class A and B drug.

This comes after Barnstable police were dispatched to a local home around 6 p.m. on Saturday for an unresponsive woman who was believed to have overdosed. That woman was pronounced dead later that night at Cape Cod Hospital.

The charges stem from an investigation conducted by the Barnstable Police Department and the State Police Detectives Unit Assigned to the Cape and Islands District Attorney’s Office. Assistant District Attorney Michael Patterson will be prosecuting the case.

State officials requested $75,000 bail with conditions of remaining drug-free with screens at O'Hara's arraignment hearing. However, the court set bail for $10,000.

O'Hara will be back in court on July 31 for a probable cause hearing.
