Masked Man Charged After Barnstable Armed Home Invasion

BARNSTABLE, MA — A Cape Cod man faces multiple charges after he broke into a Barnstable home wearing a mask and brandishing a firearm, police said.

William Benton, 29 of Dennisport, faces home invasion, assault and firearms charges after he entered a Barnstable home around 10 a.m. on July 4.

Police were called by residents of Centerville, who told them that Benton was wearing an ankle monitor at the time of the home invasion.

Soon after, Benton was arrested by members of the Cape Cod Regional SWAT team, the Barnstable Police Department, Dennis Police Department and Yarmouth Police Department. Barnstable Detectives recovered several pieces of evidence, including a semi-automatic .22 caliber rifle and a magazine containing 21 rounds of ammunition.

Benton was held without bail, and was arraigned at Barnstable District Court on Tuesday.
