Massachusetts State Police Detective Dies Suddenly
State Police officials shared that Sgt. Gregory Furtado, who worked on the Cape and Islands, died suddenly over the weekend.

MASSACHUSETTS — A Massachusetts State Police detective assigned to the Cape and Island's District Attorney's Office detective unit died suddenly over the weekend.
State Police officials announced that Sgt. Gregory Furtado died over the weekend. He was 41.
Details about his death are unclear, and the State Police Association of Massachusetts shared that funeral arrangments haven't been released.

"He spent his career in service to, and in protection of, the citizens of our Commonwealth," officials said in a statement.
"We are heartbroken for Sergeant Furtado's wife and children; they are in our prayers. Our thoughts, also, are with Sergeant Furtado's brother and sister Troopers. May the memories of him, and of his life of service, sustain all who loved and knew him in the difficult days and weeks to come."

Furtado graduated from the State Police Academy in 2006 and, prior to that graduation, worked as a police officer in Nantucket.
"We mourn his sudden loss and extend our deepest heartfelt condolences to the entire Furtado family as well as the Massachusetts State Police," the Nantucket Police Department said in a statement.
