“My paintings are non
traditional landscapes. I love blending the real with the unreal.
Realism melting into the abstract space. The canvas is my creative
playground and I get to make it my own.” ~ Cate Raphael

Fine
Artist Cate Raphael opens her studio to the public for viewing on June 14th
with hors d’oeurves, wine and
music by Nantucket Beach Drums.
Cate’s
paintings blend the realistic and the fantastic in her dramatic scenes. Calling herself a landscape
artist, her medium is oil on canvas and her paintings show her interpretation
of the beautiful land- and cloudscapes of Nantucket, MA. Cate calls herself a
cloud chaser, seeking the most interesting shapes and meshing them with the
landscape.
Cate
has been drawing her whole life. She studied Fine Art and Early Education at
Goddard College (B.A.) plus art courses at UVM, Bennington College, NISDA and with Ken Layman. A
resident of Nantucket since 1980, last fall Cate finally gave up teaching
preschool for her main passion. She belongs to The Artists’ Association there,
where she has also studied and which accepted her as an Artist member in 2012. Her
paintings currently hang at the Joyce and Seward Johnson Gallery, Nantucket
Artworks and Nantucket Chamber of Commerce office on Nantucket.
Painting
is a spiritual experience for Cate and people say her paintings make them feel
peaceful. She planned her Studio Show to share that experience with art lovers
on the island. Visit her at her studio
on June 14th from 5:30 to 7:30pm, Cate Raphael, 26 Miacomet Road in
Nantucket, MA.
