Phone Scammers Posing As Barnstable Town Employees: Police

Barnstable police said the scammers are posing as town employees to steal residents' bank account information.

BARNSTABLE, MA — Police have asked residents to be on the look out for a phone fraud scam where thieves pose as Barnstable town employees. According to police, scammers asked residents if they would like a map of their property.

Police said the scammers then ask for bank account information for residents to make a $1 payment, but the callers use that information to steal money from people's bank accounts.

"No employees from the Town of Barnstable are calling people to provide this service, nor would they ask for bank account information," police said in a statement.
