The Pilgrim Monument and Provincetown Museum (PMPM) opens for the 2017 season on Saturday, April 1, 2017 at 9:00 a.m. with free admission all day. This year, the PMPM will host an array of more than 20 events for visitors and the Provincetown community including Free Admission every Wednesday from May 31 to August 30 from 5:00 – 7:00 p.m. In addition, the PMPM will extend its season throughout January 4, 2018, to be part of the holiday celebrations during Holly Folly, Christmas Week and New Year’s.

“We welcome everyone from near and far to experience the Pilgrim Monument and Provincetown Museum this season,” said K. David Weidner Ph.D., Executive Director of PMPM. “We have more than 20 events planned that will bring families, kids, history buffs, art lovers, and music lovers, up to High Pole Hill Road to visit us throughout the year.”

A new special event has been added, a Spring Celebration Egg Hunt on the lawn of the Monument at 10:30 a.m. on Sunday, April 9 for children of all ages accompanied by an adult. The event is free and open to the public. The PMPM contains a vast array of permanent collections highlighting the history of Provincetown, including the first landing of the Mayflower Pilgrims and the building of the monument, as well as the town’s rich history as a maritime port, as a haven for the creative and community and as one of the top visitor destinations. The exhibition, “The Great Provincetown Summer – 1916” will continue to be part of the collection in 2017. The exhibition is an immersion into the year 1916, a pivotal time in the town’s history when Provincetown was put on the map as the nation’s oldest continuous art colony in the world.

“With Free Admission nights it’s our way of saying thanks to our friends and neighbors in our community for their support, and to invite them to visit us if they haven’t been to the PMPM in a while,” said Weidner. “By extending our season through New Year’s 2018, the PMPM will also be a participant in Provincetown’s holiday celebrations.”

For those who don’t want to climb the Monument, the beautiful grounds of the PMPM are the ideal setting for a picnic lunch to watch the hustle and bustle of the busy Provincetown Harbor.

About the Pilgrim Monument and Provincetown Museum

Dedicated in 1910, the Monument commemorates the first landing of the Mayflower Pilgrims in the ‘new world’ -- in Provincetown in 1620. Here they signed the historic Mayflower Compact, the first agreement to establish a government by the people, the cornerstone of American democracy. They explored the Cape for five weeks before sailing on to Plymouth. At 252 feet, the Monument is an engineering marvel and the tallest granite tower in the United States. Visitors can climb the Monument’s 116 steps and 60 ramps at a leisurely pace and enjoy a breathtaking view of the entire Cape and visit our webcam for a live “View from the Top.” The Provincetown Museum at the base of the Monument presents engaging exhibitions of important chapters in our national heritage and the Town’s history and is a partner in Plymouth 400 in 2020, the anniversary of the Mayflower voyage and founding of the Plymouth Colony. Pilgrim Monument and Provincetown Museum is a non-profit educational, tax-exempt 501(3)(c) organization. For more information please visit pilgrim-monument.org.
