Plane Makes Emergency Landing At Barnstable Airport

A family of three was on their way to Martha's Vineyard when they had to make an emergency landing at Barnstable Municipal Airport.

HYANNIS, MA — A pilot flying a single-engine plane had to make an emergency landing at the Barnstable Municipal Airport when smoke started billowing from the cockpit. Fire officials said there were no injuries.

Hyannis fire officials were called to the airport just after 7 p.m. Sunday while the plane was trying to land. Fire officials told the Cape Cod Times the plane experienced an engine failure. Two of the cylinders stopped working, which released oil all over the plane and its windshield.

Fire officials told the Cape Cod Times a family of three was on the plane and was headed to Martha's Vineyard before they had to make an emergency landing. The father was the pilot and was able to land safely on the runway.
