Fatal Barnstable Police Cruiser Crash: Pedestrian Killed
A Barnstable police officer struck and killed a pedestrian while responding to a call Sunday morning, authorities said.

BARNSTABLE, MA — A Barnstable police officer responding to a call early Sunday morning struck and killed a pedestrian, according to state police. The vicim was identified as a man. His name was not released. The officer's name also was not released.

The crash happened on Route 28 in the 1300-block section at about 2 a.m.

An early investigation "indicates the victim was walking in the center of the road and was not at a crosswalk," according to state police. "The Barnstable officer was responding to a call for service with the cruiser’s lights and siren activated when it struck the victim in the middle of Route 28."
The investigation is ongoing.
