When they arrived, an investigation determined that a "homicide and suicide" had taken place, police said.

The DA's Office said officers found two people dead in the home, and two children, ages 7 and 11, were removed from the home. The children are currently in the care of the Department of Children and Families.

Barnstable police noted that the crime was "isolated to the residence" and there is no danger to the public while an investigation continues.

The Barnstable and State Police are involved in the investigation, as is the Cape and Islands District Attorney.
