Provincetown Pride 2023 Roundup

Provincetown is set to host its sixth annual Pride celebration over the weekend. Here's what to know.

PROVINCETOWN, MA — Though Boston may lay claim to the biggest Pride month event in Massachusetts, no community is more important to LGBTQ+ culture in the Commonwealth than Provincetown.

Each June during Pride month for the last six years, the Provincetown Business Guild and many local businesses have hosted events, art shows, parties and more to highlight LGBTQ+ culture.

This year includes an addition to the usual collection of parties and events, with PTown's first annual Pride Festival on the east lawn of Provincetown Town Hall.

Though this year marks the formal six-year mark for Provincetown Pride, officials with the Business Guild made sure to note that there have been plenty of instances of Pride celebrations and demonstrations on Commercial Street before 2018.

On the one-year anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising — the landmark moment for the modern LGBTQ+ rights movement — Provincetown hosted a gay and lesbian liberation march, likely the first pride march in the town's history.

By keeping Pride an annual event in PTown, officials hope to expand on the legacy started by early LGBTQ+ activists and leaders.
