Record Number Of Calls For Barnstable Fire Department In 2022
The 1,752 calls are the most in the department's history, officials said. Grant funding helped them handle the volume.
BARNSTABLE, MA — The Barnstable Fire Department was exceptionally busy this year, according to fire officials.
Those officials shared that 2022 brought a record number of calls for the department, coming in at 1,752. Call volume has "increased dramatically" from five years ago, the department said, when officials responded to 1,190 calls.
Despite the increase in call volume, the department has been able to keep up with it thanks to two grants that allowed them to expand their staff. An additional ambulance was also added, allowing the department to handle 97 percent of their own calls, officials said.
