Red Sox sweep, but fans can't bring brooms to Fenway to celebrate
Wally97 uses a broom as MLB bans brooms from Fenway Psrk as safety hazard. Cape baseball fan has an idea on how to celebrate a sweep anyway.
“One of the pleasures of being a loyal baseball fan is the chance to celebrate the success of your favorite team. We believe the incidence of a series sweep, which is defined as winning all of the games in a series of consecutive games, provides an opportunity for the sweeping team’s fans to brag about the drubbing of an archrival.
In the past, fans and owners like George Steinbrenner, The Boss, could freely bring brooms to games, but owing to enhanced security concerns, many leagues and teams including the Boston Red Sox, whose Fenway Park Security Guidelines state: “The following items are also prohibited…brooms.” The SWEEP Flag is totally harmless and allows a fan to safely celebrate or cheer their team on to win and possibly a series sweep." states Lee Hill, SWEEP Flag Company President.
Some non-fans might say this banning is not an issue because series sweeps are infrequent. But serious baseball fans may disagree according to Michael Crane, Jr., Publisher of the baseball statistics website, http://www.MLBsweeps.com , who states: “In Major League Baseball’s 2016 regular season, 779 series of 2, 3 or 4 games were played. A series sweep occurred in 217 or 28% of the series. “
