Rt. 6 Rest Area On Cape Cod Kept Alive – For Now
County commissioners this week voted to allocate $40,000 for its maintenance.

BARNSTABLE, MA – The Rt. 6 rest area has a new, if potentially short, lease on life. Barnstable County commissioners on Wednesday unanimously voted to allocate $40,000 in grant money toward the rest stop's continued maintenance, according to the Cape Cod Times.
The rest area, between exits 6 and 7 on the eastbound side, is open from Memorial Day to Columbus Day. The county and the Yarmouth Chamber of Commerce reached a deal in 2017 to use a $40,000 grant to cover subcontracted maintenance work, the Times reported.
The county has struggled for many years to receive a long-term lease to redevelop the property.
