Shark Named After Julian Edelman Sends Researchers Scrambling
Researchers gave chase this week after the great white shark, like his namesake, dropped his coverage.

CHATHAM, MA — A great white shark named after Julian Edelman lived up to his namesake recently when he dropped his coverage and eluded researchers. The shark, nicknamed "Jules," was originally tagged in 2011 and remained one of the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy's most reliable sharks.
Jules has returned every year since, but this was the first summer the Conservancy gave him a name. Researchers landed on Edelman because, much like the Patriots' star receiver, Jules "dropped his coverage and his squirrelly behavior made it hard to get a new tag in him," according to the Conservancy.
Jules was retagged Tuesday, the Conservancy said.

Meet Jules! Originally tagged in 2011 and unamed until now, he’s one of our most reliable sharks—returning every year since. Like @Edelman11, he dropped his coverage and his squirrelly behavior made it hard to get a new tag in him. Hard work pays off, and he was retagged Tuesday. pic.twitter.com/8FK5ayOPsn
