Shark Sightings Temporarily Close 5 Cape Cod Beaches

Beaches in Truro and Wellfleet closed Wednesday morning following great white shark sightings.

TRURO, MA — Five Cape Cod beaches were closed to swimming after great white sharks were spotted close to shore.

Ballston and Longnook beaches in Truro, as well as Maquire Landing and Lecount beaches in Wellfleet, were closed Wednesday morning until noon, according to the Atlantic White Shark Conservancy's Sharktivity app. Cahoon Hallow Beach in Wellfleet was also closed when a shark was spotted near an expedition boat.

After closing until noon, additional shark sightings at Maguire Landing Beach and Lecount Hollow Beach caused the beaches to close again until 2:30 p.m.
