Smash-and-Grabs Reported At Cape Cod Beaches

Police are warning visitors to beaches and conservation areas after several car break-ins were reported in Cape communities.

DENNIS, MA – Police in Dennis are issuing a warning about smash-and-grabs at beaches but said the incidents are not limited to one town.

"At this point, we have detectives working on the case, along with detectives from other towns reporting similar incidents," the Dennis Police Department said in a statement. "Please stay vigilant and call us if you see anything suspicious, especially at beaches and conservation areas."

The break-ins happened during the day while cars were parked at town beaches, according to police. Locking your car doors isn't enough because the windows have been smashed open, police said.

"If you park your car and walk the beach (and why wouldn't you with this great November weather??) please leave valuables at home or out of view," police said. "Give these criminals nothing of interest to see."
