The Impact of Climate Change for Us

Scott
Doney, Director of the Ocean and Climate Change Research Program at the Woods
Hole Oceanographic Institution, will discuss climate change and the work that
he and his colleagues are undertaking to explore this important topic.  This program is part of the ‘Discover Cape
Cod’ series being sponsored by the Osterville Village Library.

Dr. Doney received his bachelor’s degree in chemistry
from the University of California, San Diego, and his Ph.D. from MIT and WHOI
in a joint program on chemical oceanography.
His research interests include marine biogeochemistry and ecosystem
dynamics; ocean acidification; the global carbon cycle; and climate change.

Dr. Doney says: “My science interests span oceanography, climate and
biogeochemistry. Much of my research involves how the global carbon cycle and
ocean ecology respond to natural and human-driven climate change, which may act
to either damp or accelerate climate trends. A current focus is on ocean
acidification due to the invasion into the ocean of carbon dioxide and other
chemicals from fossil fuel burning.”

Join
us at the Osterville Village Library in the Main Meeting Room for a fascinating
afternoon, with accompanying refreshments.
THIS MEETING IS FREE, BUT SEATING IS RELATIVELY LIMITED!!  Call the Library at 508-428-5757 for further information or to sign up.
