Truck Driver Who Struck Cape Bridge, Injured 2 Facing Charges: PD

A 55-year-old Brewster woman suffered serious injuries when her car was hit by concrete from the Old Bass River Bridge in Dennis.

DENNIS, MA — A Brockton man will face charges after State Police said his tractor trailer struck the top of a bridge on Route 6 in Dennis. State Police said concrete from from the bridge struck another car's hood and shattered its windshield, injuring two people

The crash happened Friday night when the tractor trailer's cargo struck the top of the Old Bass River Bridge overpass on Route 6 westbound, State Police said.

According to police, the 41-year-old Brockton man was pulling a trailer carrying a hydraulic lift that was too high to pass under the bridge. The impact from the crash broke off chunks of concrete from the bridge, which hit a 2014 Mazda 3, according to State Police.

The car's passenger, a 55-year-old Brewster woman, suffered serious injuries. The driver, a 56-year-old Brewster man, suffered minor injuries. Both were taken to Cape Cod Hospital for treatment. The truck drive was not injured.

The truck driver will be summoned to Orleans District Court on charges of operating to endanger, operating after license suspension, and an over-height violation.
