Celebrate National Poetry Month with an exploration of the
traditional Japanese poetry form, the haiku. Barnstable resident, DeWayne
Stallings, recently wrote, illustrated and self-published his book of haiku,
"Under the Wren Song." He will talk about the history and culture of
the form and read samples from notable masters as well as from his own book.
Books will be available for purchase and signing. This program is free,
but registration is required.
DeWayne Stallings teaches
at Cape Cod Academy and has a BA from the University of Minnesota and an MAE
from RISD. He uses his perceptions of the natural world, developed in his early
years in Minnesota, as the foundation of his haiku writing, and his studies of
Japanese haiku in translation have greatly influenced his efforts to maintain a
mostly nature-centered approach to the content of his work.
