Utility Worker Airlifted After Getting Electrocuted In Sandwich

Fire Chief John Burke said the employee had about 7,500 volts of electricity go through his body.

SANDWICH, MA — An Eversource employee was airlifted after getting electrocuted at the company's switching yard, according to fire officials. Around 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, emergency officials were called to Tupper Road and found the man with electrical burns to his upper and lower body. The man was conscious and alert when fire officials arrived.

Fire Chief John Burke said the employee had about 7,500 volts of electricity go through his body. A medical helicopter from Plymouth was requested, which rushed the employee to Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston.

Burke said the man is in stable condition.

The cause of the incident wasn't clear. Fire officials said State and local authorities, as well as Eversource representatives, are investigating.
