Wear Orange Day was inspired by friends of Hadiya Pendleton, a 15-year-old high school student from the south side of Chicago, who was shot in the back and killed on January 29, 2013. Hadiya’s friends decided to honor her life by wearing orange — the color hunters wear in the woods to protect themselves and others. On June 2, 2015, what would have been Hadiya’s 18th birthday, more than 200 organizations and influencers (including President Obama, Julianne Moore, the New York Mets) asked people nationwide to join them by wearing orange to honor her life, and the lives of the more than 91 Americans killed by gun violence every day. #Wear Orange is now a nationwide movement.

Moms Demand Action For Gun Sense in America is a non-partisan grassroots movement of Americans supporting common sense, middle-ground solutions to the escalating problem of gun violence in America. It was formed after the Sandy Hook Elementary mass shooting and now has chapters in every state. The group is part of Everytown For Gun Safety. “MOMS” is not anti-gun; they are anti-gun violence.
