Woman Dies After Falling Through Ice While Walking Dog On Cape Cod; Husband Still Missing: Authorities
The couple was walking their dog 30 feet from shore when it's believed they both fell through the ice in Eastham.
EASTHAM, MA — A woman is dead after she fell through the ice while walking her dog in Eastham on Saturday morning, fire officials said Saturday night.
Emergency crews searched for two hours for the woman after initially responding at about 9 a.m. to an area at First Encounter Beach, where they spotted the woman — who'd fallen through the ice about 30 feet from shore, according to a post on the Eastham Fire Department Facebook page.
Emergency crews tried to rescue the woman but were not able to locate her. At about 11 a.m., the woman was found by dive teams and pronounced dead at the scene, according to fire officials.

It is believed the husband of the woman was with her at the time — as the two walked their dog along the ice — and also fell through, according to fire officials.
Emergency crews searched throughout the day Saturday for the man but did not locate him. Additional search measures will resume Sunday, authorities said.

The couple's dog was located on the beach and transported to safety by the Eastham Animal Control Officer. The dog was reunited with an extended family member.
