1. Bedford Hosting Latex Paint Recycling Event (thebedfordcitizen.org) — Bedford's Department of Public Works is offering a free latex paint recycling drop-off for residents at the Bedford Recycling Center on Saturday, Oct. 10, by appointment. You can bring up to 30 gallons of qualifying latex paint, but oil-based products still need to go through household hazardous waste programs instead.
2. Bedford Health Department Offers Flu Vaccinations Oct. 17 (thebedfordcitizen.org) — Bedford residents can sign up now for flu shots at the town-wide clinic on Saturday, Oct. 17, at John Glenn Middle School. Vaccines are available for ages 3 and up, with several options depending on age, but you must have had a flu shot before and bring your insurance card.
3. MCC receives $2 million to expand life sciences career pathways (lowellsun.com) — Middlesex Community College's Bedford campus is getting a major boost, with more than $2.1 million to expand its Pathmaker Robotics and Automation Program and add 169 training seats. The funding is part of a statewide life sciences workforce push, giving local students hands-on lab experience and clearer pathways into well-paying biotech and medical device jobs.
4. GMGI and MITRE Partner to Build Living Ocean Atlas for Marine Biodiversity (ecomagazine.com) — A major new ocean-research project will draw on MITRE's Bedford-based expertise to help build a "Virtual Living Ocean" that maps marine biodiversity using environmental DNA and advanced data systems. With MITRE's BlueTech Lab in Bedford providing digital twin and AI capabilities, the effort could position the town as a quiet hub in cutting-edge ocean science collaboration across New England and beyond.
5. NAMI To Host Basics Education Program in Bedford This Fall (thebedfordcitizen.org) — Parents and caregivers in Bedford can join a free six-session NAMI Basics course at the Town Center building starting Tuesday, Oct. 6, focused on supporting children with emotional and behavioral challenges. Taught by trained family members, the program runs evenings and offers practical guidance, education, and community for local families navigating mental health needs.
