Bedford Holiday Trash And Recycling Schedule

Bedford has a special holiday schedule for everything from the online shipping boxes piling up to Christmas tree recycling.

BEDFORD, MA — Bedford's Department of Public Works is doing its own preparations for the holidays — especially setting up programs to help Bedford residents recycle.

Republic Services will be collecting trash and recycling on Monday, December 23 and Monday, Dec. 30. As with any other Monday, residents should have their trash carts and recycling carts at the curb by 7 a.m.

As for the piles of cardboard boxes that people have accumulated from online shopping, Republic Services will have a truck parked at Town Center on Mudge Way from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Dec. 27 and Dec. 28. Residents can bring flattened cardboard boxes during this time.

“This collection is for corrugated cardboard only,” said Ed McGrath, Bedford’s Recycling Coordinator. “We’re offering residents the opportunity to reduce the volume of their recycling materials by providing the opportunity to recycle cardboard on these days and alleviate residents from the hassle of fitting all the cardboard in a recycling cart.”

“Boxes should be flattened and any packing material, such as Styrofoam and plastic bags should be removed,” McGrath added.

The DPW also has a container for corrugated cardboard recycling in the rear of its building at 314 Great Road. This container is available to residents. Boxes should be flattened and all packing material removed.

The DPW is also planning to hold the curbside collection of Christmas trees Jan. 7 through Jan. 10. Details will be announced after the holidays.
