Bedford Police Department Introduces 'Recent Crimes' Webpage to Solicit Tips

A incident of shoplifting at CVS and a housebreak on South Road are among the recent crimes Bedford PD is using their website to garner tips about.

The Bedford Police Department is using a new feature on their website, a "recent crimes" page, to get the word out about several crimes that have taken place over the past month.

An incident of shoplifting on Wednesday, Oct. 17 is the most recent crime included on the recent crimes page.

Two suspects entered the store, both with hats pulled down to cover their faces, and went down the razor aisle. After the suspects had exited the store, employees determined "suspects stole 3 boxes of Rogaine ($49.99 each), a Remington Shaver ($32.49) and a Hydro Razor ($9.99)," according to the recent crimes page.

The second incident included on the new recent crimes page was an incident of a housebreaking on Sept. 19 on South Road, where the homeowner spotted a woman an unfamiliar vehicle parked in her driveway at 11:20 a.m., according to the BPD website.

The homeowner approached the woman who said she had stopped and knocked on the door to ask for directions.

At approximately 12:20 p.m., BPD responded to a call reporting a house alarm activation at the same location. According to the recent crimes page:

Officers discovered an open rear slider and a broken basement window. Entry appears to have been gained by breaking glass in basement window and reaching in to open the window. The window is located out of site under the rear deck. House alarm activated upon entry into the first floor. Master bedroom on the second floor targeted and jewelry was taken. Pillow case used to carry away jewelry and jewelry box drawers. A safe was removed from a first floor office. No other valuables removed. The safe is described as a black fire safe approximately 20”x20”x20”. Safe contained higher end jewelry and coins. Coins taken were 10 packaged sets of 1969-1974 minted coins (penny, nickel, dime, quarter and half dollar), 1 gold Krugerrand and a Martin Luther stamp.

Officer Marc Saucier said BPD is making an effort to make information on crimes available to the public in hopes of soliciting any information Bedford residents have on the incidents.

Saucier said BPD has never approached putting information out on crimes in this way before.

"A lot of the time we do get stuff when we put a photo out," Saucier said. "We've never really put information out to the public like this before though."

The addition of the recent crimes page to the BPD website comes as the deparment has redesigned their website as well as moved toward an increased social media presence.

"Now that we're making a push with social media and our new website we'll be posting more things like this to our website, so hopefully people respond," Saucier said.

Visit the BPD recent crimes page and call 781-275-1212 with any information on either crime.
