Bedford Police Log: An OUI Arrest and Concerns About a 2004 Letter
The following information was provided by the Bedford Police Department. An arrest does not indicate a conviction.

Friday, Aug. 30
At 8:24 a.m., police responded to North Road after a motorist struck a pole and No Passing sign. Police notified NStar and the DPW; Mal’s Towing picked up the vehicle.
At 8:52 a.m., police and fire responded to Bedford Village about a strong odor of natural gas inside a building. Residents were evacuated from the building and police notified National Grid. Firefighters checked the building and did not find high levels of gas. Bedford Village personnel said they would continue to check for natural gas and report any problems.
At 7:04 p.m., an officer responded to Great Road about a woman down next to a baby stroller. An officer spoke to the woman who was fine.

Saturday, Aug. 31
At 8:33 a.m., a person walked into the police station to tell police that she is concerned about a letter that she received in 2004. She said the letter was not threatening, but she’s concerned after hearing an NPR report about a “terror watch list.” The words in the letter that concerned her were “make the world a better place.” An officer spoke to the woman.
At 12:13 p.m., a Pine Street resident called police about a dog or coyote in the backyard. The animal was not in distress or injured. An officer responded, but the animal had left the area.

At 12:46 p.m., police received a report of four youths in a car in Shawsheen Cemetery. The caller said they weren’t doing anything wrong, but found it suspicious. An officer spoke to the youths, who were playing a game of supervised paintball.
Sunday, Sept. 1
At 2:55 a.m., police arrested James Twohig, 34, 200 Cove Way, Apt. 416, Quincy, and charged him on a warrant for destruction of property more than $250 and breaking and entering (misdemeanor). Police made the arrest at Bedford Village.
At 9:04 a.m., an officer found a man sleeping at Shawsheen Cemetery. The officer told the man he couldn’t sleep in the cemetery and sent him on his way.
At 5:51 p.m., police arrested Diana Mahoney, 59, 33 Otis St., Bedford, and charged her with operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of alcohol. Police responded to a report of an erratic motorist on Concord Road. An officer saw Mahoney's vehicle cross the center line and pulled over the vehicle. Mahoney was subsequently arrested for OUI.
