Coronavirus: Bedford Reports 22 Positive Cases In Town

BEDFORD, MA — Bedford reported 22 positive cases of the new coronavirus, as of Monday. Five cases have recovered and come out of isolation, the town said. The Board of Health continues to follow-up and reach out to those residents and close contacts. Many of the identified close contacts of the initial cases never exhibited symptoms, have completed their required quarantine period and have been released from quarantine by the Board of Health, according to the town.

Bedford Public Schools acknowledged how challenging the current situation is for high school seniors who were looking forward to closing out their last year together. Principal Galante sent a message to students and families, sympathizing with seniors.

"What we want to assure you of is that IF large gatherings are deemed to be safe by state and local public health officials, THEN Principal Galante, the School Committee and I pledge to you that there will be a graduation ceremony, even if it has to be in August. More complicated would be a summer prom, because we have no idea what venues will be available, but again, IF safe and possible, we will do our best to facilitate that happening as well," the letter reads.

There have been close to 9,000 confirmed cases of the coronavirus in Massachusetts as of Thursday. Governor Charlie Baker said this week a surge of coronavirus patients is expected April 7-17.
