Four MCC Students Named to PTK All-Massachusetts Team

Four MCC students were named to the 2023 Phi Theta Kappa All-Massachusetts Team: Asmaa Amiar, Conner DiPietro, JV Fonseca, and Sara Bruce

Four Middlesex Community College students were named to the 2023 Phi Theta Kappa (PTK) All-Massachusetts Team: Asmaa Amiar, Conner DiPietro, João Vitor (JV) Fonseca, and Sara Bruce. The students were recognized at a virtual ceremony on Thursday, May 4.

“It is an honor to work with our PTK student leaders and celebrate all of the wonderful things they have done throughout the year,” said Steven Rossi, MCC’s Director of Student Engagement & Retention. “We are so proud of all of their hard work and the honor of being named to the All-Massachusetts Academic Team!”

From Algeria and now living in Leicester, Amiar is studying IT Cybersecurity. Proud to have graduated from high school and pursue a college degree, Amiar plans to transfer to UMass Boston. At MCC, she works as a writing and IT Supplemental Instructor and Blackboard Ambassador, in addition to working at TJ Maxx as a Front-end Supervisor.

“MCC supports and motivates people like me from different backgrounds to continue their education, which made me register at MCC,” Amiar said. “Finishing my education is my number one priority right now, and I will do everything it takes to become a cybersecurity analyst.”

DiPietro, of Tewksbury, is an MCC Business Administration major who plans to continue studying the field at UMass Boston. As school did not always come easily to him growing up, DiPietro considers one of his favorite accomplishments at MCC to have earned a 4.0 GPA in a semester. He works as a Front-end Supervisor at TJ Maxx and for a small insurance company.

“MCC gave me the most ease of entry and was super supportive of my academic journey,” DiPietro said. “The freedom MCC gave me in my life has only made me flourish more academically, socially, and mentally.”

Fonseca, from Brazil and now living in Winchester, is a Fall 2022 graduate of MCC’s Business Administration program. At MCC, he worked full-time and was the Secretary, then Vice President for the Student Government Association (SGA) He plans to study online at Northeastern University from South Africa where his father is posted as Ambassador of Brazil.

“It is a great honor for me to be a candidate for the PTK All-MA Academic Team,” Fonseca said. “I know that if the recognition is granted to me it will greatly help on my educational costs.”

An MCC Business Administration and Management student from Lowell, Bruce is completing an associate degree while working as a Universal Banker at The Lowell Five Cent Savings Bank.

After graduating from MCC in Summer 2023, she plans to continue her career path at the company she has worked at for 18 years.

“The program has helped me and continues to help me understand the inner workings of growing a business and a place of work,” Bruce said. “I feel inspired by my program and teachers and know each will help me reach my goals.
