MCC Hosts Fashion Show for College for Kids in Design Class

On Thursday, July 13, students in the Fashion Design class displayed their creations at a Fashion Show hosted on MCC's Bedford Campus

This summer’s College for Kids is off to a strong start at Middlesex Community College. Kids ages 8 to 17 can explore interests, learn new skills, meet new friends, and boost self-confidence with weekly classes running through August 17. On Thursday, July 13, students in the Fashion Design class displayed their creations at a Fashion Show hosted on MCC’s Bedford Campus.

“The Fashion Show was the culmination of a week of creativity, fun and dedication for the students in our class,” said Ellen Wright, MCC’s Assistant Director of Lifelong Learning and Workforce Development. “The day has been a College for Kids tradition for over 20 years, providing a wonderful opportunity for our students to show off their hard work to their family and friends. All of our students enjoyed their time and were proud of their designs!”

Throughout the week, students in instructor Eleni Zohdi’s class learned fashion tools and techniques, such as sewing and working with textiles. They had the opportunity to practice their skills and hone their styles by designing t-shirts and donated dresses.

“All I can say is this is the first camp Gianna has ever liked, and like is putting it lightly,” said Gina Aloisi, a parent from Burlington. “I usually have to fight her about going to camp every summer and the pushback on weeks when she had to go was brutal. At CFK, she actually looks forward to going. For us, it has been more than just ‘camp.’ It brought out a passion in Gianna and did wonders for her self-esteem and confidence. The changes I saw in her in, literally, one week, were just awesome. She was so happy. And how proud her whole family is of her when she showed her dress, we are still talking about it to this very day. It has opened her eyes to what she can actually accomplish & achieve if she puts her mind to it.”

Run by MCC’s Community Education and Training division, College for Kids enriches students’ lives with classes centered on creativity and STEM (science, technology, engineering and mathematics). Upcoming classes include Coding for Teens, Lego Mindstorms, Dungeons and Dragons, Cakes & Cupcakes and DIY Crafts.
