MCC Partners with Chantilly Place for College for Kids Program
For a decade, the students in MCC's summer Fashion Design course have benefitted from the college's unique partnership with Chantilly Place

For a decade, the students in Middlesex Community College’s summer Fashion Design course have benefitted from the college’s unique partnership with Chantilly Place. Colleen Farley, owner of the Chelmsford bridal shop, has donated over 100 dresses and vows to continue partnering with MCC.
Students use the skills they learn in instructor Eleni Zohdi’s class, like sewing and working with textiles, to take apart and re-design the dresses. This year, students presented them in a Fashion Show at Lowell Burger Company.
“I was someone who always loved fashion, art and being creative and imaginative, but I didn't always have a lot of ways to express that outside of my home, especially in a learning environment,” Farley said. “So to be able to give these kids an outlet to do something they love and use a part of their brain and creativity that they may not always get to when in school means a lot to me.”

College for Kids’ fun and engaging summer programs provide children and youth, ages eight to 17, with unique opportunities to explore careers, learn new skills, meet new friends and boost self-confidence. Programs are taught by public school teachers or professionals who are experts in their field.
Judy Burke, Executive Director of Institutional Advancement at MCC, believes these programs benefit greatly from partnerships and involvement from local for profit and non-profit businesses at a time when resources are scarce.

“Organizations like Chantilly Place and owners like Colleen Farley hear that we have a need and react; providing valuable time and treasure to help move the college forward,” Burke said. “Her generosity goes a long way toward making our young students feel special and beautiful.”
