MCC’s FAFSA Mondays Sets Students Up for Financial Success
MCC is helping to make the costs of education more accessible by hosting FAFSA Mondays throughout the summer

One of the best ways students can set themselves up for success is by completing their Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Middlesex Community College is helping to make the costs of education more accessible by hosting FAFSA Mondays throughout the summer to guide students through the application process.
“FAFSA Mondays provide an opportunity for students to attend an in-person session with a Financial Aid Counselor one-on-one to jumpstart the financial aid process,” said Kimberly Tibbetts, MCC’s Director of Financial Aid. “By completing their application early, students feel more confident heading into the semester and get a better understanding of how much they are eligible to receive for the academic year.”
Financial Aid Counselors will be available on both the Bedford and Lowell campuses from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Mondays through the end of September. Students can make an appointment or drop-in to have their questions answered and go through the application process.

During these sessions, counselors will be available to talk to students and their families about what financial aid is and how it can help them afford the costs of education. This includes helping to pay for tuition, fees, books, living expenses, transportation, and personal expenses.
The sessions also present an opportunity for students to better understand the different types of financial aid available to them and the expectations that go along with accepting assistance. In addition to loans, students can learn more about internal and external scholarships, as well as Federal Work Study opportunities.

With guidance from staff, students can learn how to access MCC’s Financial Aid website and know their options. By meeting with someone in-person, students also have the chance to establish a relationship with an individual who they can reach out to with further questions.
Whether a student is taking classes full- or part-time, they can complete their FAFSA each year while attending college. Applications are available every year on October 1, and while there is a priority deadline of August 1, students can apply for financial aid throughout the year.
“The FAFSA is free and easy to fill out,” Tibbetts said. “It’s worth completing because students often qualify for more than they think!
