MCC’s Flexible Options and Affordable Prices Get Students on Trac

MCC's Spring Mini-mester II – starting on Monday, March 28 – is the perfect time for students to jumpstart their education

(John McKeith)

Rather than wait for Summer and Fall, Middlesex Community College’s Spring Mini-mester II – starting on Monday, March 28 – is the perfect time for students to jumpstart their education and earn a certificate or degree to advance in their careers.

In addition to a selection of Business courses, students can choose from a variety of subjects during Spring Mini-mester II from over 80 degree and certificate options, and take classes during the day, evening and weekends. Online students can also choose to take classes with set times and days or at their own pace with no scheduled meeting times.

“Mini-mesters are a convenient and fast way for students to build on their previous education,” said Stacie Hargis, MCC Professor and Entrepreneurship Coordinator. “This is especially helpful with MCC’s Launch Your Business Now certificate which helps students leverage their knowledge base and passions while building the skills necessary to launch a business within one semester."

For students interested in finishing or starting their degree, upgrading their skills, or advancing in their careers, MCC’s Mini-mesters offer accelerated eight-week courses that cover the same content, maintain the same academic standards, and offer the same number of instructional hours as courses scheduled during the traditional 15-week semester.

Another way Middlesex provides students with flexible and accessible learning options is by rewarding students for their life and past college experiences. By taking advantage of MCC’s Credit for Prior Learning (CPL), students can apply the experience they have gained through academically related employment, training programs, military services, and more toward college credits.

Combining experiences with a degree or certificate provides new or updated skills, training and expertise that can enhance a person’s career, leading to greater stability and a higher income.

CPL can also save students thousands in tuition costs because students will be able to take less courses overall to get their degree. Combined with Mini-mester sessions, CPL allows students to take fewer classes – and in a short amount of time – getting them on their way to transferring to a four-year institution or directly entering the workforce.

On-campus, online and hybrid course formats allow students to take classes in ways that work best for their needs, schedules and busy lives. With small class sizes and instructors whose main focus is on teaching, students also benefit from more personalized instruction and guidance.

All Middlesex students also have access to award-winning and free student support services, such academic, career, transfer and financial advising; tutoring for every subject and degree option; and mentoring on how to navigate college life and be successful.

Please note that Middlesex requires all students to be vaccinated in order to come to campus, as of January 2022. Students who are unvaccinated can still choose to take online classes and access online resources and student support services.
