MCC’s World of Music to Honor Immigrants at Opening Fall Concert
"Celebrating Immigrants through Music" will take place at 8 p.m. Friday, September 13 in MCC's Academic Arts Center Recital Hall, Lowell

MCC’s A World of Music Fall Concert Series will open with “Celebrating Immigrants through Music” – a collaboration with Welcoming Week Lowell 2019 – at 8 p.m. Friday, September 13 in MCC’s Richard & Nancy Donahue Family Academic Arts Center Recital Hall, 240 Central St., Lowell.
Entitled “Celebrating Immigrants through Music,” a variety of music will be performed from Cambodia, Africa and Brazil as well as works by immigrant composers Igor Stravinsky, Max Lifchitz, Jaime León Ferro and Tan Dun. MCC faculty members Orlando Cela, flute; Carmen Rodríguez-Peralta, piano; Marcus Santos, pandero; and Anna Ward, soprano will be joined by Sovann Khon, tro sau; and the African Fellowship Choir and drummers of Eliot Church.
Parking is not available on site. The nearest public parking facility to MCC’s Academic Arts Center is the Early Garage, 135 Middlesex St., Lowell.

Additional events in this fall’s A World of Music free concert series include: “Environmental Issues Reflected by Music,” at 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 2, in the MCC Concert Hall, Bedford campus; pianist Sonya Ovrutsky Fensome, at 8 p.m. Friday, Nov. 22, in the MCC Concert Hall, Bedford campus; the MCC Student Recital, at 12:30 p.m. Monday, Dec. 9, in the MCC Concert Hall, Bedford campus; and the Lowell Chamber Orchestra, at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13, in the Academic Arts Center Recital Hall, Lowell campus.
