MCC Theater Department Presents ‘Antigone’

The Middlesex Community College Theater Department presents “Antigone,” the Greek classic as retold by French playwright Jean Anouilh. Performances will be held at 7 p.m. Thursday and Friday, Dec. 5 and 6; at 2 and 7 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 7; and at 2 and 7 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 8; in Merrimack College’s Stevens Auditorium, 315 Turnpike St., North Andover. Tickets are $15 (MCC students, staff and faculty $10). Tickets may be purchased by calling the box office at 978-458-2429 or online at https://www.middlesex.mass.edu/performingarts/default.aspx.

“Antigone,” Anouilh’s best-known play, was first performed in 1944 Nazi-controlled Paris and provoked much controversy. Adapted from the classic Greek story about a young girl who defies a tyrant and is sent to her death, Anouilh uses Greek mythology to explore many disturbing and moral dilemmas of more modern times.
