MCC Welcomes New Trustee James H. Campanini

James H. Campanini, of Lowell, has been appointed by Gov. Charlie Baker to serve as a member of the Middlesex Community College Board of Trustees.

Campanini is the former editor-in-chief of the Lowell Sun, where he directed the organization's print and digital operations for three decades before his recent retirement.

“Middlesex is pleased to have a trustee with such an extensive background in journalism and communications,” said MCC President James C. Mabry. “Jim Campanini brings a range of valuable skills and community connections with him, and his input will help the college. I look forward to working with him to advance the mission of Middlesex.”

A graduate of the University of Rhode Island, with a BA in journalism, Campanini is best known for championing the Sun’s public watchdog role. He wrote editorials that won nearly two dozen regional journalism awards, including five first-place honors. Also a certified Italian wine scholar, Campanini writes a weekly wine column published in the Sun and the Boston Herald.

Campanini joins current members of the Board of Trustees, including Chairman James J. Campbell of Lowell, Linda Banks-Santilli of Waltham, Alec A. Belanger of Billerica, Laurie A. Elliott of Lowell, Cheryl E. Howard of Reading, Steven Iem of Lowell, Bopha Malone of Bedford, Annie O’Connor of Lowell, and Kathleen A. Plath of Tyngsboro.
