Middlesex CC Names 2019 Student Graduation Speakers
Biar Kon, of Lowell, and Randy T. Nguyen, of Woburn, to address Class of 2019 at Commencement exercises on Thursday, May 23

Middlesex Community College students Biar Kon, of Lowell, and Randy T. Nguyen, of Woburn, have been named 2019 Student Commencement Speakers. They will address the approximately 1,150 members of the Class of 2019 during Commencement exercises, to be held at 10 a.m. Thursday, May 23, in the Lowell Memorial Auditorium, 50 E. Merrimack St.
Biar Kon -- Born in Sudan, Kon is graduating with honors, earning an Associate in Science degree in Business Administration Transfer with a 3.45 GPA.
A member of Phi Theta Kappa , the national honor society for two-year colleges, Kon also served as president of MCC’s African Cultural Club and is a mentor to many African-American male students. He also volunteers in the community to support recent refugees through the International Institute. Kon plans to transfer to UMass Lowell’s Honors College to pursue bachelor’s and master’s degrees in International Business and Marketing.

Randy T. Nguyen -- A first-generation college student, Nguyen is graduating with highest honors, earning an Associate in Science degree in Business Administration Transfer with a 3.89 GPA. He also holds an Entrepreneurship Certificate from MCC.
Nguyen is a member of Phi Theta Kappa, the national honor society for two-year colleges, and the Dean’s Advisory Council. He also served as Vice Chair of the Student Union Government Association, is a Leadership in Action Fellow, and traveled to Morocco in 2018 as part of an International Education Fellowship. Nguyen plans to transfer to UMass Amherst’s Isenberg School of Management to pursue a bachelor’s degree in Operation & Information Management.

Two outstanding Middlesex alums will also address the Class of 2019. Bedford Police Chief Robert Bongiorno (Class of 1993) will address graduates at Commencement exercises on May 23. And Linda Krasnecki Chemaly (Class of 1972), of Trinity EMS, will address Health Programs graduates at MCC’s Health Pinning Ceremony, to be held at 4 p.m. Tuesday, May 21, in the Lowell Memorial Auditorium.
Both Bongiorno and Chemaly will be presented 2019 Distinguished Alumni Awards during Commencement exercises on May 23.
