Middlesex CC Names Linda Nara 2019-20 Student Trustee

The Middlesex Community College Board of Trustees has named Linda Nara, of Lowell, Student Trustee for the 2019-2020 academic year.

An international student from Cambodia, Nara has been studying at MCC since January 2018. She is pursuing an associate degree in Liberal Arts & Sciences with a History, Politics & Global Studies Concentration. She expects to graduate in May 2020, then earn bachelor’s and master’s degrees before returning to Cambodia to launch a diplomatic career.

“I’m kind of shy, so at first I thought being Student Trustee was out of my reach,” said Nara. “But then I thought, ‘Just give it a try and see how it goes. You’ll never know if you’re capable of anything unless you try!’ ”

That adventurous outlook is what motivated the 20-year-old native of Phnom Penh to study in the U.S. “MCC is very wonderful. I love the diversity,” said Nara. “I have been exposed to many cultures, I’m hearing different languages. It has opened my mind.”

With her excellent English (which she has studied since the age of 10) and open attitude, Nara has become increasingly active on campus. She has served as president of the International Club, and is an active member of Asian Students in Alliance (A.S.I.A.). She is also a student Orientation Leader, and a tutor in the Writing Center.

“I have been trying many different things at MCC and seeing what I can do,” said Nara. “I’m getting more and more confident.”
